About the artist

Paul-Cesar Helleu was a French painter known for his portraits of women during the Bell Époque. He attended the École des Beaux-Arts at age 16. He met Claude Monet and John Singer Sargent at the Second Impressionist Exhibition that same year and was immediately struck by their work. He developed a close relation with John Singer Sargent. Soon, Helleu became one of the most respected artists of the Edwardian era, resulting in honorary memberships of multiple art societies. His work can be found in many museums all over the world.
