After leaving the art academy Colin Paul Mey established, along with Anton Nicoglou, Jacqueline Bitte and Françoise Clavel, the group DEEPO, meaning “de-position”, which promoted experimental and alternative art. In 1973 he exhibited at the Crous of the Beaux Arts de Paris for the first time. Among his first paintings were still lives in movement, which were influenced by Matisse and Mondrian. These works were created in 1978. In 1979 the French designer Philippe Starck commissioned him ten large gouache paintings for the restaurant Bains-Douches in Paris. In 1989 he painted geometrical rhythms directly on shirts and ties for Agnès B. In 1990, Christian Lacroix chose his ties for his fall/winter show. In 1997 his studio caught fire and most of his work was lost. In 1998 he began painting portraits after the style of Hokusaï, characterised by mixed geometry and charcoal drawings.
