Leo, a Dutch artist residing and practicing his craft in close proximity to the vibrant city of Amsterdam, has passionately devoted over three decades to the realm of abstract painting. His chosen medium is exclusively oil paints, and he applies them in a manner so opulent that it often blurs the line between traditional painting and the art of sculpting. Notably, Leo's artworks possess a unique characteristic—they demand an extended period of several months to fully dry.
Within the sphere of his artistic endeavors, Leo's primary goal is to explore the depths of the human psyche. He recognizes that every individual harbors a profound inner self, a reservoir teeming with emotions, thoughts, and feelings that defy easy articulation through rational discourse. Through his artistry, Leo endeavors to establish a profound connection with this enigmatic inner world, unearthing its rich and intricate tapestry.
In doing so, his creations also serve a dual purpose: to counterbalance an excessively rational world. The prevalent trend toward hyperrealism, meticulous alignment, and pixelated forms, evident in some contemporary art forms such as geometric shapes, computer-generated animations, and figurative depictions, has led Leo to view his art as a much-needed antidote. He firmly believes that art, including painting, should have the power to reach deep within the human psyche, tapping into the very essence of nature.
In this visionary quest, Leo conjures a world free from the constraints of fixed geometry, a universe where roads twist and meander, and objects exhibit a dynamic fluidity, moving in an ever-shifting, multidirectional dance. His work beckons viewers to embrace a realm where the boundaries of reason are blurred, and the innermost, uncharted territories of human consciousness are explored through vivid, evocative brushstrokes.
