Reinier Lucassen was born in 1939, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He studied at the National School for art teachers in Amsterdam.
Since 1960 his figurative painting style seems to be in development. In this, he tends to combine recognizable everyday objects with abstract symbols. His early works are often seen as a European answer to Pop Art.
He characteristically uses trivial elements as cartoon characters, lamps, lounge chars and plants together with brightly coloured surfaces and expressive elements. Since 1980 he produces smaller, less prominent work.Typical of Lucassen's style are characters integrated into the image in a pictoral manner, as well as poetic and enigmatic titles.
