Jan Henkels worked in Amsterdam during the second half of the eighteenth century.
The clockwork
An eight-day going train with full calendar (moon phase, date, day, and month), and alarm function.
The clock has an anchor escapement and double striking train; the full and half hours are struck, the quarters are struck once on respectively the large and the small chime.
The case
The veneered case is embellished with contrasting bands, as is the door of the trunk. The center of the door is fitted with a gilt bronze cartouche representing ‘the abduction of Europa’.
The door to the dial is flanked by two columns with bronze capitals. The hood is embellished with openwork carving. The hood is topped with a carved crest and three gilt-wood statuettes, representing Atlas flanked by two trumpeters. - Sur l'artisteJan Henkels était un horloger néerlandais et vivait à Amsterdam. Il était actif au 18ème siècle aux Pays-Bas.
