Johannes Cornelis Stoffels era un grafico, artigiano di arti decorative, designer di gioielli e designer di mobili. Dal 1892-1896 studiò per diventare argentiere alla Dagtekenschool voor Kunstambachten ad Amsterdam. Nel 1895 divenne anche formatore qualificato. I suoi oggetti decorativi hanno contribuito notevolmente ai movimenti Art Nouveau e Art Deco olandesi. Sfortunatamente, non ha mai firmato il suo lavoro, motivo per cui il suo nome non è così noto a noi come alcuni dei suoi contemporanei come H.P. Berlage, Jan Eisenloeffel e Chris van der Hoef.
