Johannes Cornelis Stoffels
Biography1878 - 1952
About the artist
Johannes Cornelis Stoffels was a graphic designer, decorative arts craftsman, jewelry designer and furniture designer. From 1892-1896 he studied to become a silversmith at the Dagtekenschool voor Kunstambachten in Amsterdam. In 1895 he also became a qualified moulder. His decorative objects greatly contributed to the Dutch Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. Unfortunately, he never signed his work which is why his name is not as well known to us as some of his contemporaries such as H.P. Berlage, Jan Eisenloeffel and Chris van der Hoef.
