Georg Braun (also written Brunus or Bruin) was a German top-geographer who lived and worked in Cologne.. He edited between 1572 and 1617 the Civitates orbis terrarum, containing 546 prospects, bird-eyes views and city maps from all over the world. He was the principal editor of the work. He died as an octogenarian in1622, as the only survivor of the Original team. He witnissed the publication of the Volume VI in 1617. The Braun publication - consisting of six volumes - set new standards in cartography for over than 100 years. Primarily European cities are depicted in the publication but Casablanca and Mexico City /Cuzco on one sheet are also included in Volume I.
