- Over kunstenaarMaarten Vrolijk is a Dutch artist from Oss who studied at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven. Vrolijk primarily focused on handmade textiles and carpets during his studies, characterised by the loose manner of painting and the shapes that were inspired by nature. Rather soon after his studies, Vrolijk started to divert his interest to designing furniture, glass and crockery next to designing textiles. He had a large breakthrough in the Dutch design world after making a carpet called 'Who shot Bruno' in 1992, a parody on the standard leopard skin.
Vrolijk currently primarily makes with glass vases, oil paintings and watercolours, depicting flowers in an almost abstract manner with different materials. His works are a part of the permanent collection of multiple renowned museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and numerous others.
