Jacobus Franciscus Hoppenbrouwers (1819-1866) - Winter landscape

The artist Jacobus Franciscus Hoppenbrouwers was born in The Hague and was educated at the Hague Academy of Fine Arts. Then he went to the studio of the famous landscape painter Andreas Schelfhout. Jacobus Hoppenbrouwers mainly painted romantic winter and summer landscapes whose composition, spicy furnishings and atmosphere strongly remind us of his master's work. He left the painting of the figures to his friend Charles Rochussen from time to time. Andreas Schelfhout, David Bles, H. Scheeres, P.G. Vertin, P.Th. van Wijngaerdt, J.D. Koelman and S.L. Verveer have upholstered some of his works. In his time already, especially his panoramic landscapes were very popular. These were often upholstered by his friend Charles Rochussen. Hoppenbrouwers taught L. Apol and A.J. Madlener. From 1845 he was a member of the Kon. Akademie in Amsterdam.
