About the artist

Felicien Bobeldijk was born in Koog aan de Zaan. He was a pupil at the Quellinusschool, and got admitted to the state school and Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He was highly requested as a portrait painter, especially after a publication of several of his portraits in the ‘Groene Amsterdammer’.

He is famous for his drawings and paintings of Amsterdam cityscapes, colourful flower still life and some beach scenes with fishermen. He was member of ‘Arti et Amicitiae’ in Amsterdam and Pulchri Studio’ in The Hague. In 1900 he was the winner of the Willink van Collen award, he received several medals and in 1932 he won the St. Lucas prize.
