- About the artist
Rik van Iersel, born in Maastricht in 1961, displayed an early passion for painting and drawing. Even as a young boy of eighteen, he designed posters for pop concerts at the Effenaar.
This marked the beginning of the development of his unique artistic style. He ventured into creating comic strips, played the drums in Der Junge Hund, and soon embarked on crafting his first large, vibrant expressionist paintings, which swiftly led to a solo exhibition at Galerie Willy Schoots.
Over the years, Van Iersel's art found its way to galleries in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, New York, and San Francisco. His style has constantly evolved, but his curiosity for materials, media, and life itself remains a consistent thread woven throughout his work.
Known for his rapid and spontaneous approach, he can be categorized as a traditional painter, often inspired by timeless themes that have endured for centuries.
