A proposito di opere artista
Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) nacque a Sieggen in Germania. Fu un importante pittore fiammingo, disegnatore en diplomatico. Rubens viaggiò in Italia, dove si ispirò all'arte classica e al lavoro di maestri italiani moderni come Caravaggio. Rubens ha trascorso del tempo in Spagna in missione diplomatica. Nel 1609 divenne pittore di corte dell'arciduca Alberto d'Austria (a Bruxelles). In questo periodo accettò importanti commissioni per chiese ed edifici pubblici. Lavorando in stile barocco fiammingo, Rubens era rinomato per il suo alto grado di abilità in ogni genere: nella rappresentazione di scene bibliche e mitologiche ed eventi storici, in ritratti, paesaggi, nature morte e rappresentazioni di animali. La sua versatilità è evidente anche nei suoi numerosi disegni. Rubens mantenne un grande studio con molti allievi. La sua casa e il suo posto di lavoro ad Anversa possono essere visitati ancora oggi.
