About the artist
Zhang Wanqi is a renowned watercolourist, well-known in China and a multiple winner of various competitions. His style is so typical for Chinese artists. With a fluent brushstroke he paints landscapes, fish, forests and the most beautiful Chinese flowers, often provided with inspiring lines of poetry and often signed with his signature and his chops. He paints on 80 g watercolour paper and on traditional rice paper. He gets his inspiration from the frequent trips he makes in China, which he captures with his camera. Once back home, he translates these images into the most beautiful watercolours. With his watercolours he tries to build a bridge between traditional and western art. Zhang is professor of drawing at Shanghai University and fulfils many prominent managerial roles in the art world.
