About the Artist - 8 more artworks
Kobe is known as a Belgian sculptor, born in 1950 in Kortrijk. He received his education in the artistic field at the Art Academy of Ghent and Doornik. The central theme in his work is the constant search for the boundary between the abstract and the figurative. Often switching between both perspectives in the same artwork, he is creating both a certain tension and a playfulness.
Kobe also has a distinct preference of the female form and figure, torsos and horses. They can be characterized in his work by their flat and thin surfaces combined with rounder shapes. Influences from the old Egypt, Etruscan and African sculptures are present, alongside modern influences from the Cubist development.
Kobe himself sadly passed away in 2014. When admiring a sculpture by Kobe you should not forget to walk around it, experiencing all forms of different interpretations of one image.
