Leo Gestel, nato a Woerden l'11 novembre 1881, è stato un pittore olandese. Anche suo padre Willem Gestel era un artista. Leo Gestel ha sperimentato il cubismo, l'espressionismo, il futurismo e il postimpressionismo. Insieme a Piet Mondrian, fu tra i principali artisti del modernismo olandese. Inizialmente, Gestel fu educato e influenzato nell'arte da suo padre, Willem Gestel, direttore di una scuola d'arte, e suo zio, Dimmen Gestel, che aveva dipinto con Vincent van Gogh.
Mentre a Parigi entra in contatto con il movimento d'avanguardia. Nel 1913 Herwarth Walden gli offre l'opportunità di esporre nell'"Erster Deutscher Herbstsalon" di Berlino. Era tipico per l'artista Leo Gestel trascorrere l'estate a Bergen, dove si unì alla Bergen School. Nel 1929 la maggior parte delle sue opere andò perduta quando un incendio distrusse il suo studio; si è poi trasferito a Blaricum. Durante i suoi trent'anni, era spesso malato a causa di problemi di stomaco.
Nel 1941, Leo Gestel morì all'età di sessant'anni dopo una lunga malattia a Hilversum il 26 novembre 1941. Lo stile artistico di Leo Gestel Leo Gestel sviluppò uno stile artistico luministico all'inizio della sua carriera, che utilizzò per dipingere paesaggi intorno a Woerden nei Paesi Bassi. Più tardi nella vita, è passato a uno stile artistico più cubista e, infine, quando stava raggiungendo la fine della sua vita, ha espresso uno stile più espressionista. Fu anche influenzato dal Fauvismo.
A Gestel piaceva anche disegnare scene comiche e caricature. Ha inviato molte cartoline con disegni divertenti. In questi disegni, si immaginava il ruolo principale in situazioni terribili o bizzarre, ad esempio durante i traslochi. A causa di problemi finanziari, Gestel ha creato pubblicità per libri illustrati.
