  Ron Mills is a muralist, a painter and a printmaker living in Spain and the United States. His current series of large-scale pieces are gestures toward the unknowable, the infinitely intricate and immense dimensions of the universe, inner and outer that compose and surround us. The textured metallic pigments and paint surfaces shimmer as we move around them, creating inviting multi-layered veils that remind of our deepest desires to explore without naming. He achieves this effect by using acrylic paint over heavy gel that is branch-patted with metallic and other powdered pigments on the canvas. The eye is compelled to scan, to dwell in fascination, to embrace that which is greater than a single narrative or illusory image. He claims: “Beauty is to me found when the mind reaches its end point. When words fail. To engage this aspiration, as a painter, I court images that are not previously known or named, in passages that hint at luminous sources often behind ‘the thicket’ of confusion, unresolved flux and serendipity.”

  Ronald DeWitt Mills (in seguito Mills-Pinyas) è un pittore di studio, incisore e muralista.

  Ron attualmente vive con la moglie Maria Isabel Pinyas-Mills ad Arenys de Mar, in Spagna, e ad Amity, in Oregon.

  Mills-Pinyas ha conseguito una laurea in arte e filosofia presso l'Università della California, Santa Barbara nel 1973 e un Master in Belle Arti presso la Claremont Graduate University di Claremont, California, in arte e filosofia presso l'Università di Claremont, California, nel 1976.

  Come professore, Mills-Pinyas ha sviluppato programmi di studio e insegnato vari corsi di disegno, pittura, incisione, tesi, forme d'arte multimediali, design e teoria dell'arte.

  I dipinti di Ron Mills rivelano ciò che è debole nella creazione, fragile e delicato, in un mondo potente che è vivo con esplosioni di colore e bellissime sub-realtà molecolari.

  Nell'opera di Mills possiamo sperimentare la decostruzione di ciò che è e la minaccia a ciò che pensiamo sia concreto e reale. Non sappiamo se stiamo assistendo all'inizio o alla fine, ma sappiamo che stiamo assistendo all'essenza della vita organica attraverso la metamorfosi molecolare in tutto il suo colore, nella sua consistenza e, a volte, nella sua terribile bellezza.
