Geert Meyer

Geert Meyer was a Dutch painter and draftsman. Meyer (also: Meijer) was educated at the Vrije Academie in Amsterdam (1959) and the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht (1960-1964). He was taught by Frans Nols, Jaap Min and Ko Sarneel, among others.
In Maastricht he was co-founder of the artists' association Artishock. In 1966 he returned to his hometown, where he became a teacher at the Minerva Academy (1967 to 1981). He was, among other things, the nestor of the painter Uko Post.
Meyer was a member of the artists' group Nu and later a member and chairman (1979-1980) of De Ploeg. Together with Eddy Roos, Harm van Weerden, Maria Klinkenberg and Martin den Hollander, he belonged to the group that split from De Ploeg and founded the 'Groninger Kunstenaars Kollektief' in 1981.
He was a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists. Meyer has lived and worked in Mechelen since 1992.
