  • About the artwork
Mixed Media and oil on natural Canvas

Bryan Claessen (Sittard 1977) is a self taught artist who expresses his views on the world in paintings, initially, Bryan’s works contained a lot of abstraction and empty spaces. He then delved into history and presented his audience with his view of the decay of the American dream. He is currently reinventing the lonely – but not unhappy – presence of individuals in confusing situations. In his recent work he sketches atmospheric images, places that intrigue him. Often buildings or landscapes containing one or more people, In an alienating combination of realism and abstraction. He leaves it to the viewer to think about these situations so that we all think about why we end up in situations and where those situations lead us.
The question raised by Bryan’s paintings do not always lead to an answer. Sometimes it is pure enjoyment of composition and colors. Watch endlessly, without ever getting bored.
