About the artist

Anita Vermeeren is a Dutch artist from the region Brabant. She uses thick layers of paint and applies mixed techniques to the paint such as scratching, which creates an interesting collection of lines. The same lines can be found in her drawings with charcoal and pencil. Furthermore, Vermeeren creates traditionally made Italian fresco's. Her work seems to be abstract at first glance, but when one views her work from a distance it is clearly figurative. She puts a lot of work and material into her artworks, struggling with material, which makes her work expressive and powerful.
She is inspired by her local landscape, resembling the dark landscapes Vincent van Gogh produced in Brabant. Next to landscapes, Vermeeren often creates portraits .
