About the artist
Ernest Vincent Hamel (Amsterdam, August 24, 1931 is a Dutch visual artist who lives and works in Amsterdam.
Hamel comes from a family of actors and artists: brother Niels was a painter and theater designer, brothers Jules and Maxim were actors. His father Jack Hamel was a painter/actor and his mother Amanda Hamel-Aronds ran an art gallery.
Vincent Hamel makes objects, mainly monochrome, where the structure of the material, the color, the format and the dimensions are leading.
The need to convey a feeling, an emotion, with as few resources as possible; the relativity, the cycle, the space, the silence. The autonomous objects are therefore clearly not paintings in the sense of a window to another environment, but want to be part of their environment and are therefore strongly dependent on it.
