    Geer van Velde appartiene agli artisti preminenti dell'École de Paris del dopoguerra. In origine Geer van Velde era un imbianchino. Geer si unì a suo fratello Bram a Parigi nel 1925 per sviluppare ulteriormente il suo talento artistico. In un primo momento, ha fatto un lavoro figurativo-espressionista. Tuttavia, soprattutto dopo il suo trasferimento nel sud della Francia nel 1938, ha trovato il suo stile, influenzato dalla luce mediterranea: la realtà ridotta a linee verticali, orizzontali e diagonali e aree di colore piene. In questo, la rappresentazione di una luce pallida e filtrata ha giocato un ruolo importante. Fino al 1940 nelle sue opere erano ancora riconoscibili figure e oggetti. Morì in Francia nel 1977.
