Charles van Wijk (1875, The Hague – 1917, The Hague), full name Charles Hendrik Marie van Wijk, was a Dutch sculptor. He studied under Eugène Lacomblé at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts), The Hague, and afterwards in Brussels from 1896 to 1897, and in Paris. He studied under Eugène Lacomblé at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts), The Hague, and afterwards in Brussels from 1896 to 1897, and in Paris. In 1902, he married Anna Maris, a daughter of the painter Jacob Maris. He lived and worked in The Hague and Voorburg. Among his subjects were country people (the Veluwe) and fishermen (Scheveningen and Volendam). He worked with bronze and stone. He was a member of Arti and Amicitiae, Amsterdam. Van Wijk was awarded several times. He made statues of famous artists and writers: Potgieter (Zwolle), Jacob and Willem Maris (The Hague), Bilderdijk (Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam). After his dead, Van Wijk’s design for a statue of Van Oldenbarnevelt was executed by Arend Willem Maurits Odé in 1920 (Coolsingel, Rotterdam).
