About the artist
Karel Gomes was a Dutch sculptor, painter and medallist, active in Amsterdam. He went to the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) Amsterdam. He specialized in bronze sculptures of animals and people. His sculptures are to be found in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam as well as in public space throughout the Netherlands.
